Although your willingness to share the credit is positive and will foster relationships with your peers, a failure to acknowledge your own accomplishments and contributions could position you to be overlooked for advancement in your role. Try not to overly diminish or omit your own contribution to a project. You can maintain humility, and still step forward to take reward for your efforts.

Your willingness to give others credit when applicable gives you more credibility when you elaborate on your own accomplishments as well. It shows that you have a balanced perspective on your own contribution to the efforts and success within your team. However, over-inflating the contribution of others or yourself could diminish that same credibility. Try not to become boastful in your manner, and be aware of acknowledging and recognising other teammates efforts.

Although it is important to be able to highlight your accomplishments, certain approaches to doing so can have adverse effects. Prior to an event where self-praise may be necessary (interview, sales/client meeting, presentations, etc.) consider making a note of how you will frame your accomplishments with a mindset that examines how your delivery may be perceived by others. You can come off as boastful. You may not allocate credit to others when it's due, try to think about where you can support or recognize others so you can create a positive impact on how you are viewed by clients, colleagues and within your teams.
